Frequently asked questions:

  • What are the categories of licenses to carry firearms:

    Class A allows the holder to access to large capacity firearms, rifles, shotguns and ammunition. Only Class A holders may carry a concealed weapon.

    Class B allows access to non-large capacity firearms (handguns) as well as large capacity rifles, shotguns and ammunition.

  • Where do I apply for an LTC or FID card:

You can apply for an FID Card or Class A or B LTC at the Police Department in the city or town where you live or where your principal place of business is located.

  • Persons with Criminal Records

    Persons with certain criminal records, especially those involving drugs and firearms trafficking, as well as those with a history of mental illness may not qualify for certain kinds of licenses in the future.

The new laws have significantly changed the requirements regarding the purchase, possession, carrying, storage and licensing of firearms. This law also increases the criminal penalties for unlawful possession and use of firearms.

Firearms License Applications are available from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday - Friday.
